Cost Cutting without Hartz, Manifestations without Monday

Summary/Abstract: Politics of deficit reduction and "new" social policy in Netherlands differ from the German agenda which is characterised by "Hartz", the Volkswagen manager who designed the main featers of Chancellor Schroeders reform policy, and by the "Monday Manifestations", a protest movement against this policy with a series of regular monday-manifestations referring to the protest movement that initiated the collapse of the German Democratic Republic. The article revies the political debates in Netherlands and the differences compared to Germany.
