Summary/Abstract: Museums have taken different roles in education and social life in different periods. Education has become one of the major functions of museums since the middle of the 20th century and enabling the viewers to reach the museum collections through education has been accepted as one of the most important missions of the museums. The future of the educational system of a nation depends on awareness of the past, bringing the facts to the present and passing them to the future. Due to this fact, it will be benefiting to utilise the past experiences in efforts of educational institutions in art educations. In this study it is aimed to emphasize the reports about using museums in educational process and indicating the historical process of the “museum education” with the developments in the field of museology referring to the importance of educators’ through important reports. When we look through the literature, educators such as J. Dewey, Sir Frey, G. Stiehler’s M. Necati, İ. Baltacıoğlu and İ.H. Tonguç, reports on museum education, it could be emphasized that they positively affect contemporary museum studies.
