Identification of communication problems in relation IT – business based on IT projects. A viewpoint of the participant in the software development process

Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to identify problems in communication between IT and business in software development process. The first part contains of the descriptions of the basic concepts such as project, IT and business. The second one presents communication process in an IT project. The authors used a choreography diagram to show an interaction between the participants. In the following section the authors quote research results of the consulting company Deloitte showing the scale and importance of miscommunication between ICT solution provider and customer. The outcome of the analysis prompted the authors to try to identify the causes of this problem. The next section focuses on the research procedure and the results. The respondents were representatives of both fields: IT and business in the amount of 50 people in each group. All of them participated in nearly 20 IT projects in the financial services industry.
