Systematization of Approaches to the Definition of the Category “Economy of Knowledge”

Summary/Abstract: The aim of scientific research is the development of conceptual and categorical apparatus of the knowledge economy and systematization of the main approaches to the definition of this category.The main approaches to the definition of «knowledge economy» category were systematized. The processes, in which knowledge take part to provide knowledge-based economy in the country were defined; the main among them are: production, stockpiling, use and dissemination of knowledge. It was proposed to include investing in human capital, science and ICT to the structure of these processes. The relevant factors and the main results of the functioning of knowledge economy in the country were identified. The structure of investment in human capital, which has been used in the development of the category of the knowledge economy, was clarified. The author's definition of the knowledge economy, which is a type of post-industrial economy, consists of the processes of production, storage, use, dissemination of the knowledge and investment in them. It contributes to the human growth in the country and increases its level of competitiveness and innovativeness.
