Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to answer the question – what are the stress managing strategies used by the families of those young people who are determined to emigrate? In the studies of used strategies and in the interpretation of the results, the theory of systems has been applied. The main research question was: What are the coping strategies used in the families of people determined to emigrate? The analysis comprised 40 young people who declared that their families are subjected to stress because of their emigration. There were five coping strategies as indicators: two described as internal (Reframing/transforming the importance of the situation and Passive assessment of the situation) and three referred as external (Searching for outside help, Exploration of social support and Seeking spiritual support). To answer the question about the sense of danger in families, the author applied a questionnaire made by her and Family Crisis Oriented Evaluation Scales (F – COPES). F - COPES examines what problem-solving strategies were used by families in a difficult situation. The results show that families of those who have decided to go abroad because of economic reasons, have limited resources to cope with difficult situations.
