Summary/Abstract: The Hungarian Episcopacy in the 2nd half of the 19th century was very dismissive regarding the Vatican Council. The Episcopacy’s reasons were more political rather than theological. The Catholic Church in Hungary felt that the changes taken would expose it to the attacks of the extreme liberals in Hungarian society.
