Summary/Abstract: In this paper, we examine the main linguistic-stylistic processes which affect the structuring of phrasal periphrasis in journalism, by which the meaning directed to a recipient is configured. Considering the fact that vividness and expressiveness are important characteristics of phraseologisms, we observe them in this work from the linguo-stylistic point of view, in the domain of their creation by the means of periphrasis, synecdoche, metonymy, metaphor and euphemism, where periphrasis is the dominant stylistic mean. With the corpus of different kinds of newspapers, there are also some features of these stylistic processes that unequivocally indicate that language is ’social practice’, i.e. it has ideological background. Based on the dominant stylistic mean that forms these phraseologisms, and that is periphrasis, our research showed that phrasal and periphrastic units are necessarily semantically more specific, that they convey more vivid signification (meaning) than the non-phrasal ones, whereby stylistic means help them. This possibility affects that these units give journalists more freedom, and in relation to that: (1) they are often convenient for overcoming the problems of text stylization, (2) but, more important than that, they provide an opportunity to the communicator a choice to express his/ her attitude, conveying a variety of intellectual reflection that often have an ideological background, depending on their genre and on the kind of discourse they are configured in as such.
