Summary/Abstract: Accepting the Bible as a legitimate source of information, Eriugena believes that man was created by God. Eriugena built a philosophical system concerning man, in which the basic definition of uncreated and created reality is an undefined concept of nature that extends to existence and non-existence. The philosopher assumes that for man and in man, the entire creature had come to be. The human nature was created as perfect and free. The unwise choice caused the fall of the man and creatures. Man lost the perfection, but didn't lose the freedom and can make choices, which refer to his identity. Eriugena describes man in the perfect and excellent state, and he illustrates man’s open road to return to excellence and perfection also after the fall. The paper discusses the condition of man fundamentally in the perfect state, i.e. before the fall.
