Summary/Abstract: The main purpose of this paper is to present a function of the artin Ortega’s work – Th e dehumanization of art (1925). The art theory ofthe Spanish thinker is very closely connected to the social philosophy, as a starting point in the search for an answer to the question: what is the role of art in shaping social differences? In his analysis, the author shows that, in fact, the arts is a kind of salvation – it’s a protection againstthe masses. Th e author justifies the thesis that dehumanised art is ambivalent: it is incomprehensible and, at the same time, opens up new horizons to the look at the man and society.
