Narratio Zosimi de vita beatorum (BHG, 1889 –1890 = CAVT, 166) revisited: its literary genre and sources

Summary/Abstract: The following article examines the literary genre and the sources of the so-called Narration of Zosimos (CAVT, 166), where the Romanesque journey of a hermit is told. Starting from the traditional label of “pseudepigraphic text” attributed to the work by the Critics, the article developed a diff erent thesis, identifying the tale as a “hagio graphical (or Christian) romance”, at the crossroad of several ancient and Christian literary traditions. In the second part the article deals with the sources of the text: the raveled net of relationships between the Narration and other texts and traditions is the subject of the analysis, particularly as regards the combination of Judeo- Christian Leitmotive and Christian edifying purposes.
