The Adoption of erís in Chilean voseo: a Phenomenon of Verbal Therapeutics?

Summary/Abstract: This work addresses an aspect of Chilean voseo that has not yet received much attention: the coexistence of different vos-related forms that express the lexical significatum of the verb ser (~ “to be”) in present indicative. Specifically, this work inquires into the possibility that the recently observed substitution of soi by erís is a phenomenon of verbal therapeutics, as defined by Jules Gilliéron. Taking several linguistic data into account, it is here maintained that said possibility is a well-grounded one, and therefore deserves serious consideration in the study of Chilean voseo
