Summary/Abstract: This paper aims, on the one hand, to present the values and principles promoted by the international institutions and the national norms in the field of juvenile justice, as they are stipulated by legislation adopted in this regard. Secondly it aims to analyze whether the current organization of the Romanian juvenile justice system meets these values. It takes in consideration several elements, such as: the goal of the system, the length of the justice process, the sentences stipulated by the Criminal Code and the existence of alternatives to criminal proceedings, the programs and services for juvenile offenders, the role of the family or the elements the resocialization relies on.
