Summary/Abstract: The article, based on the analysis of epigraphic monuments, narrative sources, archaeological artifacts, deals with the presence of the military forces of the Roman Empire in the Northern Black Sea at the end of III—V centuries CE; the participation of the Roman Vexillatio in Bosporus-Chersonesus wars in Taurica is modelled; the cause of their formation is found out on the basis of parts of the protection of the Danube border; the hypothesis of the dislocation of the mobile artillery legion Balistarii Seniores in Tauric Chersonese is proved. Under the conditions of permanent aggravation of the military-political situation in the region at the end of III—V centuries the vexillationes of the I Italian, II Herсulius, XI Claudius legions, of the unit equitum Dalmatarum, of the mobile legion Balistarii Seniores reliably protected Tauric Chersonese and provided strategic interests of the Empire in the Northern Black Sea Coast.
