Summary/Abstract: The Polish and the Russian poker terminology originates mainly from the English languagesince it is the international, official language of this sport. The terminological content iscoherent, hermetic and highly stable. The research material was divided into four basic thematicgroups as well as several subgroups. It was established that during the initial phase of its existence, poker terminology has parallel phonetic and graphic forms in the borrowing language. In theprocess of adaptation, the pronunciation and spelling are subject to gradual stabilisation. In thePolish language, the poker terminology most often retains its original spelling. In the Russianlanguage, on the other hand, practical transcription and transphonation predominate.
