Summary/Abstract: The ESDP is one of several instruments of the Union's common foreign and security policy (CFSP). Nonetheless, the introduction of the ESDP required new institutional bodies, the elaboration of new decision-making procedures, as well as new types of planning processes and methods in order to provide the Union with a real capacity to carry out peace support operations.
