Summary/Abstract: The international security environment is characterized by permanent changes such as, for instance, the increasing number of sources of insecurity (including juridical insecurity) and of the number of power cores and the emergence of new types of conflicts. However, there is no power core, be it old or more recent, that can compare to the United States, although the United States are going through a transition period from uni- to multi-polarity. Security has turned global and events can no longer be kept under control, therefore there is a need for solving the main security issues on the basis of renewing the security management principles and escaping the trap made by old dogmas and paradigms. The present paper is an attempt to define security management, to clarify essential knowledge in this domain and other complementary domains, as well as to integrate them in the concept of security management. The study stems from the assumption that there is a relationship of inter-dependence between management and security and that, through an inter-disciplinary approach, a new scientific discipline can be created –security management.
