Summary/Abstract: This article presents a reflection on the historical conditions of the formation of the Upper Silesian industrial city. The problem is discussed on the example of the town called Siemianowice Śląskie. The author illustrated the successive stages of the development of local settlements: Siemianowice, Bytków, Przełajka, Michałkowice, Bańgów and Huta Laura, as well as the process leading to their merge. A complementation of the reflection is the presentation of the contemporary socio-cultural transformations of post-industrial area, as well as the search for a new identity among the local community
