Summary/Abstract: Cervantes’s major work Don Quixote, considered to be the first modern European novel, is acknowledged as a masterpiece of the Spanish “Golden age” (Siglo de Oro), of Spanish and world literature, and as such, it is regarded among the best works of fiction ever written. Today, however, Don Quixote has also been transferred from the spheres of literature and the literary canon to the spheres of mythology, culture, and art. Approaching the celebration of the 400 anniversary of Cervantes’ death (1616), this text explores the place of Don Quixote in Macedonian culture, art, and literature, mainly through the works of the following Macedonian authors: Blazhe Koneski (poetry), Aleksandar Prokopiev (essay), and Vladimir Georgievski (paintings).
