Summary/Abstract: The beginnings of cooperative banking in Szadek, which is continued today in the form of the Cooperative Bank, date back to 1906. The initiator, organizer and the first chairman of the banking society was dr. Ignacy Lipiński. Until 1921 the bank operated as “Savings and Loan Society”, to be later transformed into “Cooperative Szadek Bank Ltd. in the town of Szadek”. In October 1930 the bank’s activity was suspended because of German occupation. The Cooperative Bank was reactivated in 1947; in 1950 it was transformed into the Municipal Cooperative Fund, and eight years later – into the Cooperative Fund. Since May 1962 this institution has been operating under the name “Cooperative Bank in Szadek”. In 1975 it was incorporated into the Food Management Bank. In July 1970 it was moved to a new building in Sieradzka Street in Szadek. Today the Bank has four branch offices: in Wodzierady, Goszczanów, Warta and Łask, and one bank office and a cashpoint in Szadek.
