Summary/Abstract: The concept of „social stratification” is complex and has a long history. The two perspectives that have marked the history of stratification are the „functionalist” and the „conflict theory”. Despite this long history, only recently, through the works of Gerhard Lenksi, we can say that we witness an attempt to integrate the two perspectives. In this article we try to review the main points of view of the supporters of the functionalist and those of the conflict theory, by illustrating the common points, looking for a perspective that integrates them.
