Summary/Abstract: Alba Iulia Regional Museum resisted to numerous political and economic stipulations from the first half of the 20th century only due to passion, enthusiasm and efforts made by its supporters. Amongst these, the luminous figure of the one that consolidated the museum, Ion Berciu, detaches especially. Postwar changes brought, also in Alba Iulia, once with communisation of Romania, new challenges at the museal institution. In the first republican year - 1948 - director of the museum, Ion Berciu repeatedly insisted to the Commission of Historical Monuments, Ministry of Arts and Information and local authorities to remediate underfunding and not acknowledging the museum as having specialised staff. Documents that we are using show his undertaking to consolidate the scientific reputation of the museum from Alba Iulia. As an authentic museographer, Ion Berciu inscribed the museum as decisive factor in control of heritage in its reference territory, ensured it a wide research horizon and impose it as stability factor and national representation.
