Summary/Abstract: The article examines hypothesis advanced by M. Videyko and V. Dudkin regarding excavations of unexplored large-sized objects which surround the well-known Petreni settlement of Cucuteni - Tripolye culture. These objects presumably had defensive importance. Materials produced by the author prejudice the advanced version and the author suggests several other working hypothesis. The author carefully examined Cucuteni-Tripolye settlements and came to the conclusion that the examined settlements didn’t serve as defenses. There are other interpretations that need to be checked by means of special complex researches with the use of aerial survey method and conduct of excavations. The author mainly provides information on structures of the Cucuteni-Tripolye settlements obtained following aerial survey by K. Siskin and the author himself.
