Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to discuss the selected issues connected with the policy of gathering and selecting collections in the Library of the Lodz University. The analysis includes particularly the rules of gathering and selecting a legal deposit copy, collections research and management of the journal collections at the example of their gathering. The basic issue undertaken in this consideration refers to the policy of gathering collections and factors which determine it. These reflections have been embedded in three subheadings which explain the rules of work in the Library of the Lodz University.
