Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with cultural interpretation of text realizations in contemporary Russian language systems which appear in present mass-media discourse (based on press texts). Words gain meanings when used in a text, and together they provide semantic context and a clear network of interconnections, thus creating the text mass-media reality. The difficulties in their understanding and correct interpretation are driven by cultural elements such as proper names, idioms, idiomatic expressions, symbols, associations, words’ connotations and others. Therefore, students’ communication competence is crucial to understand those elements. Communication competence consists of, among others, language and (inter)cultural competence. The understanding of a broad cultural context and culturally motivated elements of Russian language system as well as analyzed text, allows the students to interpret the text in compliance with cultural communication standards.
