Summary/Abstract: The article describes a new grammatical tendency in the inflection of the verb mdleć, mdleję, mdlejesz…, mdlałem/mdlałam…, mdleliśmy/mdlałyśmy…, mdleli/mdlały, levelling the stems with an -e- to the ones with an -a- : mdlać, mdlaję, mdlali in the forms of the present and past tenses. The bases for the levelling are the historically regular forms of the paradigm with an -a-, as well as other verbs with the stem suffix -a- in the infinitive and in the past tense forms (znać, stać, spać) and verbs of the siać, grzać, lać type, with variant forms siali//sieli, grzali//grzeli, lali//leli etc. in the past tense. Changes in the mdleć paradigm are also conditioned by the geographical-linguistic factor, as well as by an external factor – the contemporary moral freedom and linguistic dissipation.
