Summary/Abstract: In the last decades of the 19th century, spiritualism in Britain reached its climax and developed both as science and religion. At the same time the genre of fantasy was evolving in the British literature. In this article we analyse the influence of spiritualism upon the genre of fantasy through the example of “The Dead Man’s Message” (1894) by Florence Marryat. We explore the chronotope of the secondary world, the plot type and characters.
