EFFECTS OF OPERATIONAL PROGRAMMES ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE TRANSPORT SECTOR IN BULGARIA

Summary/Abstract: The study examines the issues related to the impact of Operational Programmes' "Transport" and "Transport and transport infrastructure" over sustainable transport development. Investments in transport infrastructure have long-term benefits over economic development and the users of transport services. Particularly important is the assessment of social benefits of infrastructure projects and determining the extent to which a project is beneficial for the society in general. It is generally expected, that the fulfillment of infrastructure projects in the transport sector would bring forward a number of socio-economic influencing the increasing of accessibility, employment and efficiency. The main parameters, determining the performance of transport services are subject of analysis. Through the assessment of the state of the transport sector and evaluation of the opportunities provided by the Operational programs a set of trends for their future sustainable development is presented.
