Summary/Abstract: Nicolae Ștefu was born on the 4th of December 1855, in the locality Cladova, Arad County. Obtaining his credentials, after following the courses of the Preparandia from Arad, in 1876, he becomes confessional teacher in Șiria, a great locality from the County of Arad, where he organised the first choir of the peasants, sustaining the cultural role of the music for the Romanian people. The choir was functioning in the bosom of the church, but in its repertory it also had patriotic songs specific for the realities of the time. The idea of the national emancipation unified Nicolae Ștefu’s ideals and the ones of the important personalities of the time: Ciprian Porumbescu, Iosif Vulcan and others. After a life dedicated in its totality to his people, Nicolae Ștefu deceased in Arad, in 1914.
