Summary/Abstract: ensuring optimal coverage is a central objective of every sensor deployment plan. effective monitoring of the environment helps to minimize manpower and time, while enhancing surveillance capability. in this paper, a solution for improved area coverage was presented. a lattice of a pre-defined parameter has been used as an input for the algorithm. for the purpose of the research the blanket deployment strategy has been adopted. then, a genetic algorithm has been proposed and implemented to find an optimal solution. the proposed approach has been tested and the conclusions have been drawn. the results proved that the proposed genetic algorithm could already provide satisfactory results, usually finding only suboptimal solutions.
