Summary/Abstract: The Latin term "sigillum confessionis" in Еnglisch - "seal of confession", in German "Beichtgeheimnis", in the tradition of the Roman Catholic Church, means the absolute secrecy obligation of the clergyman over all the information entrusted to him in the sacra-ment of confession. In the development of the Christian repentance system, in the course of the Middle Ages the individual "ear confession" became the prevailing form of confession. The "confessor" received an extraordinary authority for the spiritual guidance of the "confessional child". As confessors of princes in Catholic Europe, members of the Jesuit Order have also had a very great political influence since the Counter-Reformation. There were charismatic personalities among them - their influence on politics without public control, however, caused reactions of strong criticism. In the nineteenth century the Catho-lic confessional practice once again reached a climax. As the most ancient form of human right to privacy, the secrecy of confession is important to the present.
