Summary/Abstract: Lidzbark was the seat of Warmia bishops from 1350 to 1795. Many of nearly thirty bishops residing there were the owners of rich collections of books. The preserved list of Lidzbark library, dated 1633, includes 784 volumes. In the 18th century the library was destroyed – the Swedish seized Lidzbark in 1704 during the Great Northern War and manuscripts and books were transported away. After transferring the seat of bishops to Frombork in 1841 the rest of collection was passed to the Seminary Library in Braniewo and chapter library in Frombork. After the Second World War the books were transferred to the Library of „Hosianum” Theological Seminary in Olsztyn. Currently its collection includes thirty four prints from the 15th and 16th century that belonged to Warmia bishops residing in Lidzbark. The nine volumes with handwritten notes by Nicolaus Copernicus can be also added to this set. It is without a doubt that the great astronomer was making use of them while he was stayingin Lidzbark at his uncle bishop Łukasz Watzenrode.
