The Library of the Higher Theological Seminary in Tarnów from a Historical Perspective

Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the history of the Library of the Higher Theological Seminary in Tarnów. As it is strictly connected with the history of diocese of Tarnów, the article gives, in the first place, an insight into its past starting from the document founding the diocese – papal bull of Pope Pius VI dated on 13th March 1786 to appointment of bishop Andrzej Jeż in 2012. In the further part the history of the Seminary and the Theological Institute was described togetherwith the origins of the library, collection growth, catalogues and reading room. The clergymen who contributed to its development: Rev. Józef Bąba – the seminary rector, Rev. Józef Brudza, Rev. Adam Nowak – the first official head librarian and Rev. Tomasz Kudroń – who undertook the most significant changes in the library in 2011 were also mentioned.
