Summary/Abstract: Science and art observed themselves for ages. In the twentieth century these two fields have frequently began to combine their forces, biology became the inspiration for art. Artists have moved to the labs. In art the use of biotechnology tools, so far used only by scientists, and materials traditionally associated with experiments and medicine made the art and science began to use a common language. This text deals with one of the important art concepts, namely the concept of “medium”. The text analyzes the journey of the concept “medium”, from the understanding traditional doer him an agency by which something is conveyed, or transferred between two points, “medium” in biology “culture medium” or “growth medium”, until the nineteenth and twentiethcentury understanding of when, also under the influence of art, communication and biological concept of “medium” started to consider parallel.
