Summary/Abstract: This article aims to establish a bridge between the different levels of interpretation of Eliade’s ideas about the nature and meaning of history, understood in the conceptual framework of the history of religions as academic discipline (Homo religiosus’ existence seen in contrast to that of historical man). Eliade has constantly criticized historism in his scientific and autobiogra-phical works, and in some fantastic stories attempted to provide successful solutions to what he called the terror of history. Man must refuse subordination to the pressure and cruelties of history and take on a creative role, by resorting to myth, symbol, ritual, understood as spiritual techniques through which he can periodically regenerate the world and can regain the purity of beginnings.
