Summary/Abstract: This work follows the Syrian history since its separation from the Ottoman Empire till the Second World War, presenting aspects of both the Ottoman and French ruling regimes, as the main forces that formed the future Syrian state.Going through the Ottoman legacy, French Mandate, Faisal’s attempts for a arab union, Syria’s history was marked both in a positive and negative manner. The exposure to european ideas, the political experience gained during the french mandate and the desire to obtain independence were only few of the most important factors which contributed to Syria’ evolution.
