Summary/Abstract: The main aim of this paper is to show the specificity of the perception of own ethnicity of theGerman (or Alsatian)-speaking population living in Alsace in France. Seeing that theGerman-population (or population speaking German dialect) live outside Alsace too, it ispossible to make relatively efficient compared to the influence of government in shapingethnicity and language. This paper should give an answer to the question: What is therelationship between state and ethnicity of inhabitants and how Alsatians develop their ownethnicity?
