Summary/Abstract: This article focuses on the contemporary portrait photography as one of the most popular and widely used genres (which undoubtedly is related to the „democratization“ of photography in the 21st century). Due to the changes that have occurred with the advent of conceptual art, the approach to the portraiture of the human body and face is changing also. Well established conventions connected to portraiture are denied. In photography it is not only about truest and most ideal depiction of external similarity. Article aims to introduce the aesthetic of photography and conventions linked to artistic creation.
