Summary/Abstract: In his endeavour to grasp the relation between photography and (the) event, the author refers, inter alia, to works by such authors as François Lyotard, Gilles Deleuze, Michel Foucault, Jacques Derrida and Alain Badiou. The increasing interest in event, presented within the French theory, not only implies a reconsideration of this notion’s role in the historical narrative and philosophical tradition, but it also forms a starting point for interpretation of two descriptive categories: the studium and the punctum, as proposed by Roland Barthes in his The Light of Image. Subsequently, the two notions are employed in an analysis of two photographs made by Serge Hambourg, a French press photographer, during the Paris events of May 1968.
