Summary/Abstract: The paper aims at providing a phonetic description of stressed narrowed vowels in the left-, right- and bilateral palatal contexts, as pronounced by seven women from Kurpie (aged 60–80, native inhabitants of the Kurpie region). Acoustic phonetics methodology has been applied during the analysis of material, and the Praat program was used to measure the formant frequency of vowels. The pronunciation of the narrowed vowels in the three palatal contexts was juxtaposed against the so-called neutral context (i.e. hard and non-sonorant consonants surrounding), and depicted at the quadrilateral vowel chart. The article presents mainly phonetic material, and the numeric data concerning the two first formants of the narrowed vowels in neutral and palatal contexts enhance the phonetic research on the Mazovia dialect.
