Educational and Professional Training Needs in the Field of Tourist Structures and Services in the Lower Danube Region

Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the problems of tourism services in the region of the Lower Danube, as well as the need for the education and training of personnel working in this sector of the economy. Is-sues analysed consist of: new realities and opportunities for the development of tourism in the Lower Danube region; the status of the Bulgarian tourist market and of Romanian participation; the opportunities for the development of alternative tourism along the Danube river valley; problems of education and professional training initiatives in tourist structures and services in Bulgaria; guidelines for improving education and professional training initiatives in the field of tourism structures and services in Bulgaria. Finally, the main conclusion is that any changes in the system for education and professional training in tourist structures and services in Bulgaria should be subject to the maxim that qualified personnel is the key to the success of companies who specialise in tourism and rely on it as means of survival, and that this system must provide them with the best possible training for professionals who deal with tourism.
