Summary/Abstract: The article aims to introduce the most significant legislative changes in terms of the status of non-Jewish immigrants that have been made by the State of Israel since 2000 to today. Due to specific characteristics of the State of Israel in terms of the relationship between the state and religion on one hand, and the long-term conflict with the Arabs on the other hand, the attitude towards immigrants is non-comparable to strategies of Western democratic states despite repeated declarations of Israeli politicians emphasizing the democratic nature of the modern Jewish state. According to the critics, these legislative changes are a proof of growing radicalism and extremism in Israeli society. These issues are discussed in the context of political development and security challenges Israel has had to face up.
