Summary/Abstract: The rising of obesity in child age represents the world-wide problem. The number of overweight children increases also in Czech republic. The present study gives the survey of findings on the personality of a child and adolescent associated with nutrition. It demonstrates the attitudes towards food, eating behavior and the development of attitudes to body seize in dependence on body weight. The obese child suffers often with lowered self-esteem, pessimistic view of life, world, society. On its problems family environment participates, reduction of physical activity, behavior of the society and peers as well as adverse influences of mass media, advertisement, marketing, etc. In the therapy and prevention of obesity the family plays a key role, it has to take the part in the formation of the change in the life style. Large scale of intervention programs had been proposed. Nutritional therapists and psychologists have used successfully the cognitive behavioral therapy as the complex method aimed on the solution of behavioral problems of the obese child.
