Principles of dynamic approach to the diagnostics of abilities

Summary/Abstract: Dynamic assessment constitutes an alternative diagnostic approach, focused on revelation and development of the tested person’s real potential, which is reached and observed via emphasis on the process of the achievement. It aims at meaningful connection with the intervention that immediately makes use of diagnostic findings to support the development of an individual. This paper mentions some restrictions of traditional tests of the intelligence which appears consequential from the dynamic point of view. The article further summarizes essential information about the dynamic approach to the evaluation of abilities – its characteristic, a definition compared to conventional ways of testing and historical development. Being conscious of other approaches to dynamic assessment, the work of R. Feuerstein is underlined, because his methods are applied in the Czech Republic (but still more in the area of intervention than in diagnostic). The article aims to present basic features of the dynamic approach (starting from an outline of some disadvantages of the traditional tests of the intelligence). The article is intended above all for specialists from different areas of the practice who have not come across the dynamic assessment yet. For readers concerned about the other approaches to the dynamic assessment, as well as about more detailed description of the approach of Feuerstein, additional references are introduced.
