Some Comments on Miroslav Červenka’s Contribution to the Study of the Lumírovec Verse

Summary/Abstract: Miroslav Červenka’s (1932–2005) prosody work on the Lumír group (1870s-80s) and their late disciples is the topic of this article. Červenka considered the Lumír group’s work to be a highpoint of nineteen-century verse, because, as incipient Modernists, they paved the way for twentieth-century verse. The author demonstrates how Červenka, whose starting point was the conclusions of Mukařovský, Šalda, and Jakobson, dealt with metre, the relationship between verse forms and semantics, and the polymetric and monometric, and she discusses the conclusions he came to.
