Summary/Abstract: This paper examines the temporal changes of returnairfares on online travel agency (OTA) and travelmetasearch websites from Budapest to three short-hauldestinations (London, Paris, Barcelona) for fixeddeparture dates in high and shoulder season. During thestudy, we created a database containing more than 31 000ticket prices over a 182 day period. Empirical findingsshowed that not a single website offered lowest airfaresconsistently and metasearch sites outperformed OTAs inalmost any cases by offering lower airfares. Results alsoindicated that tickets for shoulder season weresignificantly cheaper than for high season and ticketprices tend to be more expensive on Mondays andSundays.
