Summary/Abstract: Between Word War I and Word War II the model of education called †social education” was propagated by political group of Józef Pi³sudski’s supporters who came to power in May 1926. Its main assumption was , most of all, taking care of the country as a common good of all citizens, striving for its development and wealth. Patriotism and working for the good of all was very im- portant. It can be described by the slogan[ “work and activity”. This model dominated in Polish educational system until World War II. Today the reality is completely different. The workers of the Social Studies Faculty of Jan Kochanowski University in Piotrków Trybunalski decided to make a research on the world of contemporary values of students. The questionnaire was conduct- ed in may 2013. 1326 students of both sexes participated in them and they represented the follow- ing fields of studies: national security, economy, pedagogy, sociology (does not exist any more) and management. It turned out the values which dominate were individual[ “family life” or “good health and comfort”. The least important were the values of public welfare which used to be propagated in the past in social education[ “pro-social activities, helping the others” and “the suc- cess of the motherland”, and on the last, twenty-fifth position was “possibility of participation in social and political life”. It is not a good situation for our society and the right activities should be taken up in all educational institutions to improve the situation.
