Summary/Abstract: The bilingual anthology of Polish poetry Poesie der Welt. Polen (Berlin: Propyläen Verlag, 1987) edited by Peter and Renate Lachmann is undoubtedly one of the most interesting and the most important German-language editions of Polish poems, which appeared within the last few decades. Its concept is the brainchild of Peter Lachmann. The collection of texts includes also their interlinear translations what makes the anthology uniqe in regard to presentation of Polish literature in German speaking countries. The paper focuses on the selection criteria the selection of the texts (editorial policies) and touches upon canonization processes. Moreover, the type of behavior of the editors and translators towards the question of the canon of Polish poetry is specified. Peter and Renate Lachmann perceive the literary production as a cultural memory of the Polish. That is why they also focus on historiographic motives of selected poems.
