Summary/Abstract: This paper focuses on the nicknames given to cars by Romanian people. Attention is directed towards the classification of these onymic units according to the basis of the name-giving process (onymization, transonymization). In addition, naming patterns are identified from the viewpoint of semantics and of the origin and motivation of nicknames.
