Summary/Abstract: Both the media and technologies have been used in the education process since always. However, the instruments used in the teaching and learning are constantly changing. The article presents opinions of students from the University of Split (Croatia) and the University of Silesia in Katowice (Poland) on the usefulness of such media tools as: computer, notebook, smartphone, traditional telephone, scanner, camera, TV, radio, e-book reader, wearable technology, the traditional book, the press and other. The results of research on the frequency of use of particular technical equipment during lessons in higher education and in the earlier stages of education are also described. The author bases her analyses on the results which were obtained in the diagnostic survey involving a questionnaire among students preparing for the profession of a teacher, pedagogue and educator in Croatia and Poland.
