Summary/Abstract: The article looks at the contemporary higher education in the context of post-modern society and its lifestyles. It is argued here that, in order to be truly modern, university teaching needs to take this context into account. Encouraging an in-depth understanding of such a relationship, the author presents a number of pedagogical solutions that are likely to ensure coherence between how we live and how we learn / teach. The solutions described include blended tutoring, intercultural online exchanges and tandem language learning. All three pedagogical techniques are based on the use of new technologies in education. Such use, however, is not reduced to art for art’s sake; it is meant to facilitate and enhance education through dialogue which, as the author argues, is the essence of academia.
